Beth Maurer, a retired teacher, was born in Saskatchewan where she dabbled in oil painting. She moved to Charleswood in 1975 and was eventually employed in the White Horse Plain School Division. Upon retirement, she resumed her interest in art, learning watercolor techniques, acrylics, mixed media, encaustics, etc.
Eventually she realized that making images look true to life no longer mattered. Instead, she found that experimenting with and arranging the elements of design about in an abstract form of expression seemed to release her creativity more effectively than the planning of a realistic image.
For Beth, a playful approach can result in accidents but they are respected and often lead to a successful composition.
