Shirley Rayner

Shirley's love affair with creating, specifically as an artist and musician, began as a very young child. She primarily likes to paint landscapes and has recently devoted some time to portraiture, Her current favourite medium is soft pastel and she has won several awards for her pastel paintings. She also occasionally works in other mediums, including watercolour, acrylic, and oil.

Shirley has taken many painting courses; often being paired with a travel experience. Some of the artists she has studied with include Cheng Khee Chee, David Taylor, Mark Hanson, and Liz Haywood-Sullivan. She has also had the opportunity to teach pastel painting.

Plein-air painting and sketching have aslo been of particular interest to Shirley. She has always enjoyed being outdoors and believes that is an important and necessary experience to develop the artist's eye.

A passion equal to painting is making music. Shirley has her A.R.C.T. Piano Teacher's Diploma and also plays sveral other instruments in the string and percussion families.
